Koala class is for children who are about 6 months old and just learning to sit up. The class is taken together with their mothers. Children can enter an English environment with someone they trust, raising not only their English ability but their social skills and assertiveness as well. Children this age take in language through rhythm and sound. The first half of the lesson has the children moving their bodies along with English songs or chants, allowing them to come in contact with the English language in a fun way. During the second half of class, children learn everyday English expressions by playing with a native English speaking teacher in common situations like “bath time”, “lunch time” and “park time”.
- Staff: 1 foreign teacher
- Maximum 6 students(pairs)
- Mother and child attend class together
- Each month we will introduce a new CD or DVD to the class containing new songs or finger play.
- A student will automatically graduate to Rabbit Class the month (or the month after)he/she turns 2.
- Make-up lessons are permitted.
- Children 2-3 years old , who have no experience in an English environment or in being apart from their parents, may take the Koala class for the first three months.
A word to parents who lack English skills.
The most important thing at this age is for you to establish Japanese as your child’s native language. It’s not necessary for you to speak to your child in English at home. For children 1-2 years old, as their native language is being firmly established, their ability to speak English grows quickly. You are not harming your child’s English learning ability by speaking Japanese. Furthermore, you’ll be surprised at how fast your child begins speaking in English once they join the Rabbit class. So that you and your child can interact using a little English. It’s vital that mothers/fathers and children attend the Koala class lesson together. At this age, where children absorb information of everything like a sponge, it is important to create an environment in which children can hear English for about 2 hours a day. If it’s your wish to construct such an environment, we recommend the Koala class for you and your child.
